Oh dear oh dear oh dear…

Violence marred the 2006 Torneo Apertura, and is already rearing its head in this year’s Clausura. Following the scenes prior to River-Lanús and Estudiantes-Quilmes in the Primera A’s first round of matches, there were clashes today before the Primera B (second division) match between Los Andes and Talleres RE.

The derby of Greater Buenos Aires’ southern zone went ahead, and was won 4-0 by Talleres, but it’ll be the 50 injured, the various arrests, and the burnt-out cars that will last longest in the memory.

Meanwhile, River’s president José María Aguilar was accused of running a club which had basic security flaws in and around their stadium. Far be it from me to say, but as an ex security steward at Old Trafford, the same could, sadly, be said of all Argentine stadia…

AFA President Julio Grondona has added his tuppence-worth to it all by calling the troublemakers ‘delinquents’. But we all know that, Julio. The question is, what are you going to do about them?
