Week 6 scores and scorers

A cracking weekend of action, with a goal early in Friday night’s first match, and very, very, very late in Sunday’s final one. 2.6 goals per game this week, and as ever, a healthy red card count. Martín Palermo went crazy, Ariel Ortega returned amid controversy, Gastón Fernández scored yet again, and two matches finished 3-2.

  1. Can you shed any light on some of the more mysterious red cards tonight? There were a handful that where I have no idea what happened.

  2. Well, the (apparently quite brilliant) Belgrano - Godoy Cruz match, the two players apparently got sent off for fighting each other. Why the red cards came two minutes apart, then, I can’t tell you I’m afraid.
There are no details that I can find about Omar Zarif’s sending off, although I do wonder whether he’d be more suited to the silver screen with a name like that.
For Gimnasia Jujuy against Vélez, Ramón was sent off for a foul on Uglessich, and Silva saw red for diving in the area (presumably a second yellow).
The most interesting one, by the look of it, was Lionel Ríos’s red card for Central against San Lorenzo. He was sent off in the 91st minute, but had already been subbed by that point. Sadly, I can’t find any reports telling us exactly why he was red-carded whilst sitting on the bench.
Likewise, all I can find on Independiente goalscorer Moreno’s sending off is that it was for a second yellow card.

  3. Cheers. It was the Lionel Ríos one that threw me too. And him I should think.
