The fixture list is a bit of a mess this week, for mostly non-footballing reasons. A massive storm across the Argentine littoral, which has already killed two people in Entre Ríos Province, has caused the AFA to announce the cancellation of all matches played in Santa Fé Province this weekend.
The affected matches in Primera A are Colón vs. River and Rosario Central vs. Gimnasia La Plata. In the lower divisions, Tiro Federal vs. Defensa y Justicia, Central de Córdoba vs. Sarmiento, and Atlética Rafaela vs. Unión de Santa Fé have all also been called off, as have a number of other events due to take place in the province this weekend, among them a huge rock festival in Rosario.
As well as all this, Quilmes vs. Racing has also been suspended. The home side had a one-match ban imposed (very quietly, because I missed it) following incidents in the crowd after their last-minute defeat to River two weeks ago, when Ariel Ortega scored with his hand. They were ordered to play this weekend’s match in La Plata instead, but have gone to court to get this decision overturned, and the protest appears to have been upheld. As yet, no rescheduled dates have been announced for any of the cancelled matches.
Not that this is likely to be the case, of course, but if any readers or their loved ones have been affected by these events (the storms, not the matches being cancelled), the thoughts of Hasta Lo Gol Siempre are with you.
