Merlo out? Maybe not…

You wouldn’t want to make this man angry, would you?

Reports from Chilean sports daily La Tercera indicated this morning that Claudio Borghi, current manager of champions Colo Colo, was set to replace Reinaldo Merlo at Racing, who’s been under no little pressure since his side’s rubbish start to their Clausura campaign. Racing chairman Fernando De Tomaso (pictured) was on the radio at lunchtime, and made it absolutely clear that this wasn’t the case.

‘It’s not certain and I’m going to go further: I’m fed up with these agents making propaganda with such loaded phrases. This gentleman [Borghi, or his agent] is making propaganda and truly, I don’t know what he wants… perhaps to improve his contract with Colo Colo.’ De Tomaso went on to confirm that Racing have made Merlo an offer to renew his contract beyond its current term.

One Response to Merlo out? Maybe not…

Borghi was the flavor of the month over the Xmas holidays as his name was bandied about in reference to more than one opening… San Lorenzo, Argentinos Jrs. and now Racing as well…. very interesting.

IMO I wouldn’t touch that job with the proverbial barge pole… very messy. But then again, which Argentine Division 1 management job isn’t ????
