Saturday’s match between Nueva Chicago and Banfield wanted very badly to be played, but couldn’t get its way. After two interruptions due to floodlights cutting out, referee Carlos Maglio finally gave up, and called the match off 29 minutes into the first half. At the time, Chicago were leading 2-1 despite the visitors taking an early lead. It had started as a cracking match, but will have to be rearranged for a later date.
In a match that did get completed, Argentinos and Quilmes drew 1-1, a result which sees the former move to third in the table on sixteen points, two behind Boca and one ahead of both Estudiantes and River. Perhaps just as importantly, though, it means Quilmes still only have six points, and as such Racing won’t be finding themselves bottom of the league this weekend, at least. The potential tie of the weekend, champions Estudiantes versus leaders San Lorenzo, kicks off at 9:10pm Argentine time (1:10am on Sunday in the UK).
