A little longer

Vélez will have to wait just a little longer to confirm their place in the second round of the Copa Libertadores, after losing their unbeaten record in the tournament in Montevideo on Thursday night. In Parque Central, Nacional scored once in each half and exposed a flaccid performance from La Volpe’s boys. Diego Godín scored after 33 minutes, and Gonzalo Castro completed the job in the 78th.

The result leaves Nacional top of Group 4, on 10 points. Vélez are second on 8, with Internacional do Porto Alegre third, on 7. If Vélez are to make Inter the first ever defending champions to fall at the group stage, they’ll have to beat Emelec of Ecuador in the last match, next Thursday in Liniers, or hope Inter don’t beat Nacional in Porto Alegre.

Goals will be posted on Friday night, assuming they’re available online.
