Ver-off

Sorry, that was rubbish, I know. Argentina’s home-based squad, picked by Alfio Basile in February, get their chance to show what they can do on Wednesday, when they take on Chile in a friendly in Mendoza. Hernán Pellerano and Mauro Zárate, both of Vélez, were already pulled out of the squad due to their club’s match against Emelec in the Libertadores on Thursday. As well as this, though, the captain, Juan Sebastian Verón, has now been ruled out by injury to his right leg.

Verón had been the only player to have attended every practice, according to Basile, and will be sorely missed as one of the key players in the home-based side. The seriousness of the injury, and the effect it’ll have on Estudiantes’ season, is yet to be disclosed.
