The eleven to start Argentina’s first international match of 2007, against Chile in Mendoza on Wednesday night, have been named. The biggest story is that River goalkeeper Juan Pablo Carrizo has been rewarded for his excellent performances thus far – not least against Boca on Sunday – with a start, in part due to Independiente’s Oscar Ustari being injured.
Starting XI for Argentina vs. Chile:
GK: Juan Pablo Carrizo (River Plate)
RB: Hugo Ibarra (captain, Boca Juniors)
CB: Eduardo Tuzzio (River Plate)
CB: Daniel Díaz (Boca Juniors)
LB: Jonathan Botinelli (San Lorenzo)
MF: Fernando Belluschi (River Plate)
MF: Cristian Ledesma (San Lorenzo)
MF: José Sosa (Estudiantes)
10: Daniel Montenegro (Independiente)
ST: Rodrigo Palacio (Boca Juniors)
ST: Mariano Pavone (Estudiantes)

It’s great for Carrizo, and well deserved. He’s been better than Ustari all season anyway, even taking into account Ustari’s injury. Seem like Oscar already has his head in the Nou Camp.
I’m sorry to go on about this, but I sure hope River are grooming another goalkeeper, because the big guns of Italy and Spain are going to be making serious overtures very soon. Milan already had him shortlisted, until Dida re-signed.
I really love Juan Pablo. I hope he stays as long as possible.
I find that it is a good “selection” of players, and I am glad that Basile finally is doing what many trainers had promised but never made: to choice players that play in Argentina. I hope tonight they can make a good match in my dear Mendoza where I am from! I will miss this match, but fortunately I could watch the match between France-ARgentina the last 7 of february!
