A bit late now, chaps

Ah yes, THAT’S what he looks like when he plays football…

It’s been a long time in coming – 214 days – but Ariel Ortega was finally back in the starting lineup for River Plate on Wednesday night. It seems almost as long since River last won a match in the Libertadores. In fact it was only a couple of months ago, when they beat Colo Colo in Santiago, but the rematch tonight was meaningless unless we’re to count the opportunity to give El Burrito a run-out. Nonetheless, they managed a win, 1-0, with Diego Galván scoring in the 62nd minute.

With this result, Group 6 is done and dusted (well, it was two weeks ago, in fact), and the qualifiers are Caracas and Colo Colo, both on nine points, whilst River and LDU Quito, both with eight, go out. Only two groups remain unfinished now: Group 2 - containing no Argentine sides – and Group 7, from which Boca will qualify if they win tomorrow night against Bolívar in La Bombonera.
