Let me out!

The eighth round of matches was finally completed on Wednesday as Colón hosted River and Racing visited Quilmes. An injury-ravaged River were held ‘prisoners to their lack of football’, according to Olé. Daniel Passarella, pictured above in an audition for the Argentine version of Prison Break (no, not really) was sent from the touchline. Very little else happened and the match ended 0-0. It was far from a classic.

In the other match of the eighth round, Racing ran out 3-2 victors away to Quilmes, who’ve actually played a home match. In Arsenal’s stadium. Racing went 2-0 up minutes after half-time then threw it all away as Quilmes hit twice to claw back to 2-2 just ten minutes later. In the second minute of stoppage time, up popped Gonzalo Bergessio to win it for La Academia. Miguel Micó is unbeaten in three as caretaker boss, and now even has a win under his belt. The only way is up…

Also tonight, the first leg of the Boca vs. Vélez Copa Libertadores second round tie. Sadly it’s far too late to report on, so check back tomorrow for a write-up and the goals on video.
