None shall pass

River Plate put five past San Lorenzo in the corresponding fixture of the Apertura, back in November. What a difference six months makes. This clash between two of the campaign’s early frontrunners produced no goals and two red cards – for River’s Diego Galván in only the fourth minute, and manager Daniel Passarella in the second half.

Following Galván’s red, of course, any plans River had (and given the way they’ve played lately it may be a bit generous to Passarella to suppose that they did have any) went out the window. All the same, they did what they could to win the game. And failed. Ariel Ortega – starting a domestic match for the first time in ages – and Pablo Carrizo in the River goal were the two best players. San Lorenzo top the standings on 32, with River 6 back in fourth place.

It was nice to see Falcao back, though of course he looked rusty. And sad to say, I didn’t miss Belluschi losing possession at all.

What was Galvan thinking. Do they do video reviews of violent conduct in Argentina? He would be facing a ban if so.
