Since this week’s Libertadores action doesn’t take place until Thursday night, Wednesday’s been very quiet indeed. The AFA have signed a new sponsorship deal for the selección with credit card people ItalCred, and Big Cheese Julio Grondona took the opportunity to at least give the assembled journos something to scribble down.
‘I understand and share his decision, but it depends solely on him,’ were Grondona’s words, ‘him’ referring to Juan Román Riquelme, and ’his decision’ being the one to retire from international football after last year’s World Cup. Riquelme’s been in the form of his life since returning to Boca, and many are hoping he’ll return to the national setup for the upcoming Copa América. Román himself, though, has remained silent on the issue.
