Neri Cardozo escapes the clutches of Pablo Guiñazú

Boca looked like they were slipping to defeat in La Bombonera on Thursday night, trailing 1-0 to Libertad and suffering hugely after the visitors had taken the lead with just ten minutes remaining. Juan Román Riquelme had already seen a penalty saved when Boca ‘keeper Mauricio Caranta misjudged a free kick and the ball ended up in the net. Libertad, who’ve specialised in making like awkward for Argentine sides (River in particular) in this competition in recent seasons, thought they had it won – and then up popped Martín Palermo in the last minute to restore parity. Winning in Asunción next week won’t be easy, but at least Boca don’t face a deficit in their bid to make the semi-finals.

Check back tomorrow for videos of the goals.
