Good morning Avellaneda!

It’s a sell-out in El Cilindro for this Sunday’s Avellaneda clásico between Racing and Independiente. And it’s kicking off at 11am (3pm British Summer Time).  Yes, eleven o’clock in the morning. And we’ve got all the team news, right here.

Racing go into the match amidst difficult times. Last week was the debut of new manager Gustavo Costas, a club legend as a player, and saw defeat away to Rosario Central. They want to win today, according to Costas, ‘to give happiness to our people.’ Aah. Changes from last week: Cristian Pellerano is in for Sebastián Romero, and Facundo Sava replaces Claudio López.

Independiente, by contrast… oh no wait, there is no contrast. Independiente are also doing dreadfully by their own historically high standards, although qualification for the Copa Sudamericana isn’t yet out of their reach. Since Miguel Santoro came in to replace former manager (and legend) Jorge Burruchaga, they’ve enjoyed better results, but still make four changes from last week’s draw with Newell’s: Guille Rodríguez replaces Marcos Ramírez; Daniel Montenegro comes in for Ismael Sosa; Leandro Gioda replaces Carlos Matheu and Gastón Machín takes the place of Hernán Fredes.
