At long last, every fixture that’s meant to have been played by this stage of the Clausura has been played. Lanús hosted Quilmes on Wednesday night, in the last ‘asterisked’ match of the tournament (so far), from the eleventh round.

The 3-1 final scoreline was a big win for Lanús, as it moves them closer to Copa Libertadores qualification for next year, and almost assures their participation in the Sudamericana. It also means Quilmes’ problems at both the bottom of the Clausura and the relegation standings continue. Lanús are now seven points ahead of Vélez in the running for the last Copa Libertadores spot.

The Lanús goals came from Mauricio Romero in the 6th minute and Santiago Biglieri in the 46th and 70th, with Carlos Luna hitting the visitors’ only one in the 27th minute.

Hi mate – great blog – keep it up!!
Just a question on your comment that Lanus are now 7 points ahead of Velez in the race for the last Copa Sudamerican spot.
Do you mean the last Copa Lib spot? In any case yes they are 7 points ahead of Velez, but why no mention of Arsenal……only 1 point behind Lanus in the race for the last spot?

  2. Hi David. No mention of Arsenal because they weren’t involved in this match – I was just reviewing the situation these two teams are in (and in this case, by extension, Velez as well of course). And yes I did mean the Libertadores, that was a typo!
