Promotion battles

Wednesday evening saw the beginning of the battles for promotion / against relegation to and from Primera A. Huracan, one of the grand semi-big clubs of Gran Buenos Aires, took on Godoy Cruz in Parque Patricios and ran out 2-0 winners after playing a blinder. The return is due for Saturday in Mendoza, and due to the uniquely biased way in which the Argentine league is run, an aggregate draw means the current incumbents get to keep their Primera A place – in other words a two-goal victory would keep Godoy Cruz up, rather than take it to penalties. Read on for the goals.

In the other playoff first leg, on Thursday night, Nueva Chicago were a little unlucky to lose 1-0 to Tigre in an absolute cracker of a match in Victoria.
