Venezuela 2 – 2 Bolivia

In an intense first match, the host nation claimed a point against Bolivia. The visitors have been in the headlines across the world for off-the-pitch reasons of late, but last night it was the quality of the play which was on a high level (sorry, sorry).

Higher, at least, than was expected from possibly the tournament’s two weakest sides. Both sides ‘treated the ball well’, in the words of Carlos Carpaneto, who covered the game for Olé, and the match itself swung one way, then the other, then back again. 1-0, 1-1, 2-1, 2-2. The draw leaves Group A wide open after Peru shocked a pitifully bad Uruguay hours earlier.

I apologise for the English commentary for the second goal, but there’s a bit of a mix-up with uploads on GolesTV.
