First defeat

Panamerican Games 2007 logo

Argentina’s women’s side lost their first match of the Panamerican Games on Wednesday, 3-0 to the United States. Playing against the tournament favourites and having made a number of changes (semi-enforced, because their previous match against Mexico had been less than 48 hours earlier), Argentina found themselves 3-0 down at the break, and managed to limit the damage thereafter against opposition who’d had a day longer to prepare. Hopes of the semis aren’t gone; if they can beat Paraguay on Friday, Argentina will still progress.
