Independiente have been groundsharing with Racing since the start of the Clausura, and will have to go through that indignity for another season whilst their rather proud but very crumbling Doble Visera is remodelled. The plans for the new ground have been unveiled, complete with artists’ impressions - and doesn’t it look lovely?
With space for 46,000, the new ground will be smaller than the old Libertadores de América, and takes some design cues from the old ground but also – as you can see from the picture – quite a bit from European and particularly English stadia, with steep sides and terraces coming right down behind each goal. The ground will be open for the start of next year’s Apertura.
