Less than thrilling, except…

That was how the majority of the weekend’s matches went, with one spectacular exception. Boca weren’t it - they opened up against Central in La Bombonera and looked utterly bereft of ideas in a mind-numbingly dull match which finished 0-0. They still harbour dreams of recapturing Riquelme on another loan, but watching their performance on Sunday one thing became apparent: it’s a silly idea to rely too heavily on one player in your squad. Never mind a player who’s not in your squad.

The exception, on Saturday evening, was Independiente’s home game at Racing’s ground, against Lanús. In a ridiculously entertaining match in which both sides appeared determined to atone for the low goal tallies and general lack of inspiration apparent in the matches up until that point, it was Lanús who took an early lead through Under 20 World Cup winner Lautaro Acosta. That lasted less than a minute, as Germán Denis equalised for El Rojo, before putting them 2-1 up later on. Soon after that, Sebastián Salomón made it 2-2, before Ismael Sosa put Independiente back into the lead, just before the referee finally blew his whistle, and the teams headed to the dressing rooms.

For half time.

The second half saw Lanús make it 3-3 around the hour, through Adrián Peralta, and continue to apply pressure in a thrilling period before, after José Sand had seen red for the visitors, Independiente finally wrapped it up in the last ten minutes with two goals from Daniel Montenegro. Final score: 5-3.
