Back on form

Arsenal ended their three match losing run on Saturday, beating Newell’s 1-0 in El Viaducto. José Ulloa scored the game’s only goal in the 24th minute to give the hosts a deserved if uninspiring victory over Pablo Marini’s side, who had made five changes to the team who beat Vélez so well in midweek. The final fifteen minutes were frantic, with Claudio Husain at one point clearing off the line as Arsenal tried to kill the game off, but 1-0 was the final score.

Elsewhere, Tigre beat Banfield by a solitary goal on Friday, to climb to third, but the most notable other result was in Caballito, where Ferro beat Nueva Chicago, again 1-0, to move into second place in the B Nacional, with one match in hand over leaders Atlético Rafaela (Ferro’s game against Ben Hur will be played on the 19th of September). After narrowly escaping relegation last season, Ferro might just be gunning for promotion this.

Finally: Following that defeat to Arsenal, Newell’s will finally be playing their delayed match against River at the Monumental, postponed due to the murder of Gonzalo Acro, on Wednesday.
