Dream over

FIFA U17 World Cup logo

Argentina’s dream of winning a first Under 17 World Cup will have to wait another two years, after they fell to Nigeria by 2-0 on Saturday in Cheonan. Argentina started the stronger but Nigeria took the lead through a penalty in the 33rd minute after Lukman Haruna was felled in the box by Fernando Meza, and stuck away the resulting kick.

Macauley Chrisantus, who leads the tournament’s goalscoring table with six so far, doubled the lead in first-half stoppage time, and although the second half was very open from both sides, there were no further goals. Carlos Benítez came off the bench for Argentina and looked lively, but it wasn’t to be. Nigeria will now meet Germany, who beat England 4-1 in their quarter-final, for a place in the final. Highlights here.
