Gimnasia and Colón completed the match which was called off partway through on the 12th September as a result of torrential rain in La Plata. It had been 0-0 then, and so it continued on Friday night as Gimnasia, who’ve had a pathetic goalscoring record this season, continued to fail to the net and Colón couldn’t do any better. And then Ignacio Piatti (not be confused with Estudiantes midfielder Pablo) took the game by the scruff of the neck in the second half, setting up Matías Escobar for the first Gimnasia goal and scoring the second himself as the hosts won 2-0. And there’s more good news for Gimnasia fans – when the league recommences next weekend, they’re guarranteed another win – the visitors to the Estadio Municipal will be River Plate.
