On Monday, there arrived some proof that you can’t trust all my opinions on matters footbally. Back in June, Vélez Sársfield’s then-19-year-old forward Mauro Zárate moved to Al-Sadd of Qatar, and I suggested it was madness for him to think that Europe’s top clubs would still be interested regardless of how well he did in the league over there. Well, today it was confirmed that he’ll be joining Birmingham City on loan for six months, with an option for the English side to make the transfer permanent. Not one of Europe’s big clubs, I’ll grant you, but a definite step in the right direction. So, apologies to Zárate’s advisors, and I’ll try and get it right next time…

It’ll be interesting to see how he does, and if he gets a regular place in the starting line-up. He and James McFadden would make an interesting attacking pair…
Also, does this make it 7 Argentines in the Premier League? Tevez, Mascherano, Villa, Di Santo, Leto, Insua, Zarate?
And Arca at Middlebrough, David.
If anyone else can think of any, do chip in…
I think alot of us thought Zarate got some bad advise when he headed off to Qatar. Let’s see how he does in the Premier League. Very talented, but in my opinion a selfish player. He’ll get the acid test now.
I heard Leto & Insua might be sent on loan to Spain. Racing Santander, I think.
Brum seems like…an odd loan move for Zárate. Best of luck to him either way. Maybe he’ll get his career back on track.
chau.
Arca has been in England so long I forgot he was Argentine. He’ll be eligible to play for England in a year or two, surely…?
