Clausura ‘08: Round 8 scores and scorers

In spite of the unsavoury incidents in the stands, River Plate went top on their own on Sunday, thanks to their own win and Boca’s draw in Bahía Blanca after Josemir Lujambio scored for Olimpo to cancel out Leandro Gracián’s brilliant opener. Estudiantes also won, meaning that if and when they’re given the points for [...]

Argentines abroad – 29th & 30th March

It was a good week for Argentina’s players in the European leagues, with important goals which will affect the title races of a number of Europe’s bigger leagues and one or two eye-catchers further down the pecking order, too. And there were also a few expats on show on the opening weekend of Major League Soccer [...]

More trouble

River Plate were using Vélez Sársfield’s stadium as a home base on Sunday afternoon to host Arsenal de Sarandí, but the match was almost called off after yet more trouble in Argentina’s footballing gangland. Racing, though, once again take the wooden spoon for the day after [...]

Clausura ‘08: Round 8 fixtures

This weekend’s fixtures see joint-leaders River and Boca host Arsenal and travel to Olimpo, respectively. There’s a relegation clash between Racing and San Martín which is must-win for both sides, whilst the two sides crowned champions in 2007, San Lorenzo and Lanús, meet in the Nuevo Gasometro.

Boca Juniors 4 – 3 Colo Colo

After last week’s 2-0 loss in Santiago, Boca hosted the Chilean champions with at least one psychological advantage – earlier in the week Colo Colo’s Argentine manager, Claudio Borghi, announced to general surprise that due to a falling out with the board, he’d be resigning his charge of the first team after this match. The [...]
