The second legs of the 2008 Copa Libertadores will be played on Wednesday and Thursday nights this week, and both Argentine sides’ hopes are resting on away wins (or at least, high-scoring draws). Atlas of Mexico take a 2-2 fiorst leg draw with Boca back to Guadalajara for tonight’s encounter, whilst LDU Quito, who drew 1-1 with San Lorenzo in the Nuevo Gasómetro last week, play the return at altitude tomorrow night. For all the kick off times, including the non-Argentine ties, read on.
Kick off times are all Argentine time, even though none of the matches are being played in Argentina. Add four hours for British Summer Time. The scores given are from the first legs.
Copa Libertadores 2008 quarter-final second legs:
Weds 21st May:
Atlas (MEX) 2 - 2 Boca Juniors, 19:20
Fluminense (BRA) 0 - 1 So Paulo (BRA)
Thurs 22nd May:
Liga Deportiva Universitaria de Quito (ECU) 1 - 1 San Lorenzo, 19:20
Santos (BRA) 0 - 2 Club America de Mexico (MEX), 21:50
Away goals will count extra in the event of an aggregate draw after 90 minutes. If the tie is still level, a penalty shootout will be used. There’s no extra time in the Copa Libertadores.

Well, no Caranta in goal tonight for Boca. Instead Migliore. This is like to trying to win a 100 meter dash with an anvil tied around your leg.
You’ll be surprised to know, Johnny, that Migliore has won the last five matches he played! 3 at La Bombonera and 2 away.
What about that????
I’m getting ready for the Champions League final. Vamos Carlitos (even if it appears that he’ll start on the bench).
Seba ! Lies, damn lies and statistics !! Maybe the back plays better with Migliore because they know he is like a piece of moldy, holey(?) old swiss cheese !! Or maybe I am completely off my rocker, and Migliore is a good keeper ! We are likely to find out tonight ! A tough situation for him or any other keeper. I guarentee you Marioni is licking his chops as I type this !!
About an hour and a half to ManU and Chelsea. Can we hope that Carlitos scores a clinching goal ? Now that would be a beautiful thing.
Carlitos starts!!!!!!!!!!!!
Carlitos starts!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’ll go out of my mind if he scores today!
Headed one straight at Cech and missed a sitter a few minutes later. United should have been two up at half-time if he’d had his shooting boots on…
But I think I’ll forgive him under the circumstances!
Not very fair there, Sam. The header was performed at top speed and with barely no time to adjust. All credit to Cech there.
The other one was too close to call and he couldn’t reach for the ball.
Then…he started the mess that got Drogba ejected and forced John Terry to have to take a penalty! Talk about influencing a game! haha!
See Johnny? What did I tell you about Migliore? He kept a clean sheet while extending his undefeated streak.
There’s nothing to do against Boca. I was born in a wrong era. When will their eternal good run end? PLEASE! I can’t take it anymore.
Even Palermo scores a Zidanesque goal and gets a hat-trick in Mexico!
Seba, Terry’s the captain, and he took one (succesfully) for England when we last lost a penalty shoot-out… I think he’d have taken one anyway.
It wasn’t Carlitos’s best match for us - sure the header was at speed, but look at the one he scored late on against Blackburn a few weeks ago! That said, he played a huge part in getting United to Moscow in the first place, with his goal against Lyon and performances in both legs of the semi with Barcelona.
He also scored a penalty in the shoot-out which, although I can’t stand penalty shoot-outs (hey, I’m English…), is all you can ask. Still, if only he’d scored when it was 1-0, there might not have been a need to decide a trophy on the penalty sideshow…
