Olympic Football Tournament: Argentina 2 – 0 Serbia

Argentina rounded off their Olympic Football Tournament group campaign with an academic defeat of Serbia on Wednesday. Having already qualified for the quarter-finals, Sergio Batista rested Juan Román Riquelme, Javier Mascherano and (to the disappointment of a Chinese crowd who’d turned up specially to see him) Lionel Messi, and was rewarded with a 2-0 win from two set piece goals: a first half penalty from Ezequiel Lavezzi, and a scorching free kick from Diego Buonanotte. 1. Johnny says:

Hi Sam-actually Mascherano played today and was his usual one man blockade. A real nice performance by the team given some of the big name absences.

  2. Sorry he did didn’t he, as a defender. I’m being an idiot and trying to write from memory (about a match I wasn’t actually able to watch). I shan’t update the post or your comment won’t make any sense, Johnny, but everyone – he’s right.
