Paralympic 5-a-side: Argentina 2 – 0 Spain

With the Paralympic Games in Beijing now underway, the Argentine futsal side which won the Blind World Cup in Buenos Aires in 2006 are setting out to emulate the pros who took Olympic gold a couple of weeks ago, and began their campaign by beating European champions Spain 2-0. Silvio Velo, known since the World Cup win two years ago as ‘the blind Maradona’, scored both goals, in the 7th minute of the first half and the 8th of the second. On Tuesday, Argentina will take on hosts China, who opened the group stage with a 3-0 victory over Great Britain.
