Apertura ’08: Round five scores and scorers

It’s been an interesting weekend in Primera A, with Gimnasia de Jujuy and Huracán giving us a seven goal thriller to kick it off, Racing making it three matches unbeaten, the two promotees sharing the spoils in Tucumán, and River stumbling again. There was also a draw in a very heated clásico between Boca and Independiente in La Bombonera. All the scores and scorers are right here, as always…

Bit of a stumble for Boca, I would think, playing at home. I didn’t see the River game, but considering their form so far, that’s not a bad result.

  2. johnny says:

Boca didn’t play badly but Independiente was fired up and played pretty well. I would guess that Independiente player who put a brief chokehold on the linesman will face more than a brief suspension. Boca needs to go ahead and find a replacement for Viatri. Not to blister the guy, but he adds close to nothing. Luciano Figueroa was the latest rumor. Caranta beaten again on a header. Those are definitely his achilles heel.

  3. Johan says:

I was at the game and I think that Boca created enough chances to win it even though Independiente had some good chances as well. Didn´t see why Bocas goal was disallowed in the dying seconds of the game but i suppose it was correct since there were no protests.

Independientes goal was a joy to watch, absolutely amazing.

  4. johnny says:

Hi Johan-Boca’s goal was disallowed because of an offside infraction. Correctly called, unfortunately.:)

  5. Matthew Gilbert says:

For a second, I thought Lunati had disallowed it because he had blown for full time while the move was taking place, like that Welsh guy in the 1978 World Cup!
And talking of World Cup-like goals, what about Independiente’s 1966-type one? I suspect that was completely over the line somewhere on its journey down from the underside of the bar, but it’s Independiente, so I would have disallowed it anyway! :)
Lunati looked a fool in this game, he should have sent Rolfi off for his vicious tackle, not for re-entering the field without permission! As early as the first half he was attempting to referee wrestling matches involving Montenegro, he never seemed to have control of the game from the outset.
Did anyone watch this on Fox Soccer Channel? That commentator is such a Boca fan – ‘somebody take the shot!’, ‘somebody clear it!’. It was so blatant it became funny.

    Matthew:
I was sitting right in line to clearly see that the ball never went in, though it was pretty damn close. :)

Didn´t see the game but River is still struggling, a draw away to Arsenal is probably not what they would have liked to get out of the game. I´ve planned to go to Monumental on wednesday, something is telling me they won´t win against Velez either.
