Sam will be updating again at the end of this weekend’s matches, which is sensible.

I remember when I was little, no British papers printed any kind of league table until three matches had been played, which made more sense than these days. In the instant gratification, ‘I Want It NOW’ society, when they print a league table after the first day in which some sides have a record of 0 0 0 0 0 0 0. Solidly mid-table there then… (wishes blogs had roll-eyes smileys).

Racing certainly need GELP to win this one, to drag Godoy Cruz’s average back down to 7 from 7. It’s really tricky being in a relegation battle with newly promoted sides under this system. We could say ‘oh, the Gimnasias are miles behind, they’ll never catch up’, and we know exactly what Racing have to do to catch up with the Rosario teams and Banfield. But you have these two other sides whose form is going to fluctuate wildly throughout the season, and every win and defeat for them are going to be magnified beyond all recognition by the averages system.

Olimpo should have been dead and buried ages before the end of last season, but look how quickly they came back into contention after three or four wins.

A River win on Sunday would be handy too.

But we can’t spend our time just hoping for defeats for other clubs, Saturday night has to be the night for Racing, WE HAVE TO WIN!
