Seba’s on the way

The events of the last few days at Estudiantes have taken their toll on Juan Sebastián Verón. Following manager Roberto Sensini’s resignation on Tuesday night, Verón was criticised by some for having too much influence at the club, and the former Boca, Sampdoria, Parma, Lazio, Manchester United, Chelsea and Internazionale midfielder appeared on TyCSports on Thursday to set things straight – and to announce that he’s now thinking of retiring from the game at the end of the Clausura.

‘There’s always a vested interest behind it when these things are said,’ Verón said about the voices suggesting his influence is too large, ‘and about me, they’ve said a lot.’ He also took responsibility, speaking for the whole team apparently, for the side’s poor performances since the start of the Apertura, for which Sensini has been the one who’s paid the price.

‘I came [back to Estudiantes] because I wanted to come, not because I wanted a complicated life,’ he also said, speaking of the chance of an impending retirement. ‘I don’t have the motivation to carry on elsewhere. Perhaps when my contract finishes [in June] I’ll leave football altogether.’ The club, then, had better think about the best way to say adios to one of its legends.

Damn ! I thought your headline referred to Seba in China !

Ha ha ha. Can’t wait for our Seba to return. Hope he didn’t see the Godoy Cruz match, though, that was just too horrible.

BTW, *who* is saying these things about Veron? Not Estudiantes fans surely? They have a lot to be grateful to him for, and they rightly idolize him in their banners and songs.

If the critics are people from outside the club, he should take no notice of them, because they’re not saying it for Estudiantes’ benefit.

Mind you, all this discord is good for the mood on Saturday, VAMOS LA AKD!
