Apertura ’08: Round 16 scores and scorers

apertura-2008-logo

This weekend’s matches produced 23 goals, and haven’t done a lot to make it any clearer who the eventual champions will be. Boca have a slim lead now thanks to their victory, whilst Tigre lost, and Newell’s are now out of the running, but Lanús are closing. For all the results, step this way…

I don’t like to wish the weekend away… not that it matters much cause I work Saturdays anyway… but I *CAN’T WAIT* for Sunday night…
I really think Racing are gonna do something exciting in La Bombonera! We’ll be ready for Ricardo Noir this time…

    VAMOS AKD!

  2. johnny says:

Good luck Matthew ! I doubt you will have to be concerned about Noir however. He has fallen down the depth chart and has shown little since his dagger in Racing’s heart. He is now low man on the totem pole after Viatri, Lucho and Mouche.

Who is going to start in goal for Racing ?

  3. Matthew Gilbert says:

Well, Migliore was in on Saturday. I read an interesting interview with Paul Robinson complaining about the way he was suddenly cast aside for making a high profile mistake, and arguing that coaches should keep faith with such a keeper to avoid killing his confidence. It could work either way, Migliore could be dying to go back and prove everyone wrong, or it could scare him to death…

Llop looks to have confidence in Migliore, and at the very least I’d back him to save any penalties taken by Riquelme… I mean, you just *know* that Boca are going to get one! ;-)

I wonder who the referee is on Sunday.

Knowing our luck, though, more than worrying about the referee, Carranta, Caceres and Vargas will *all* be back for Boca, though I know Datolo is definitely out suspended.

  4. johnny says:

Matthew-I think that Caranta is in an underground doghouse. Indeed, Datolo out, but maybe Ischia will field Gaitan from the get go. My pick for future Boca star.

  5. Matthew Gilbert says:

Ha ha, poor Mauricio… there seems to be something of a curse on Boca keepers. I read something about them swapping him with San Lorenzo for Orion in January, that would be interesting.

As for Gaitan, I’d be worried about him, he’s been excellent when I’ve seen him this season, such as at Newell’s.

  6. justin says:

This time last year, only Carrizo was in better form than Caranta. It really is a mystery what has happened, but he remains extremely talented.

  7. johnny says:

Correction of an earlier post-Jesus Datolo will play against Racing Sunday via rule 225. I have seen the rule utilized before, but I don’t fully understand it. I believe it has something to do with a club being able to use a player even though he has been suspended, if he is replacing a player on international duty. Maybe.
