This is a good Argentina team. I think that Argentina is always one of the candidates to win a championship in different categories. However, most of team sub-20 has been working very hard for this competition, so it is not going to be a surprise if Argentina would not qualify and leaving its place for Peru, Ecuador, or Chile. All these teams have not been the great players in the sudamericanos sub-20, but it is different, nowadays, being a good example Peru. This team has a rich history; nevertheless, Peru has not got any important goal since 20 years ago. In contrast, Peru qualified to the world of the cup sub-17 by being 4th in the last sudamericano sub-17, and having in its team the best player of the sudamericano of this year, Reymond Manco( that is playing in the PSV Eindhoven at Netherlands). Particularly, Manco is going to play the sudamericano sub -20; however, there are more good Peruvian players that play in Europe, like Carlos Zambrano, who have already played with Peruvian main team, and played very good. I hope this sudamericano is one of the best.

I think Rios has a good level for this tournament, He is a very good number 9, plays really great inside de area. He comes from River Plate the best team in Argentina.

Ah I see Rios is still under age for this, Piatti will be a huge asset. These championships are always enjoyable to watch, looking forward to them.

I hope these games are on JTV. I always find January to be such a desolate month for lack of interesting football. In England, it’s all about the third round of the FA Cup… Manchester United vs Padstow, ITV build up a clash between Fergie’s youth team and a bunch of postmen as if it were the clash of the century.

On a completely off-topic point, I used to wonder why AFA didn’t have a cup competition. I think the one GELP won for the AFA centenary years ago was a success. But when I see what has become of the English FA Cup – now something ‘to be got out of the way’, an annoyance, much like Lucchetti – I’m kind of glad such a thing doesn’t clog up the AFA calendar. Mind you, it’s such a bad idea, maybe Grondona is planning it right now, Seba? ;-)

Happy to see ‘Baby Masche’ Zuculini there.

Looks like a strong squad in names.

Players from the Premier League like Insúa and Di Santo (even when they are not established first team players for Liverpool and Chelsea, they are there, everyday training with some of the best players in the world).

Oliva was supposed to be the New Passarella and he went to Chelsea for a trial when he was 16 or something. I don’t know what happened there, but I’m hoping big things from him and also from Mussacchio.

Piatti with his Estudiantes and La Liga experience.

And the excellent Salvio up front with Di Santo (in what I imagine will be the striking partnership).

I saw some things from Huracán’s Javier Pastore last week against Velez and I was really impressed, but he didn’t get the call. I’m guessing he’ll be one of the stars of the Clausura (if he can play at least 60% of what he played last week v. Velez).

An experienced team that should have no problems getting a ticket for the Youth World Cup Egypt 2009.
