Copa Libertadores 2009: Everton 1 – 1 Lanús

A Copa Libertadores which can best be described as underwhelming for Argentina’s representatives so far continued in frustrating fashion on Wednesday night, as Lanús, who were looking for their first win to take them off the bottom of group 6, crossed the Andes. At the end of a dull first half, Diego González put Lanús ahead in stoppage time, but Argentine Ezequiel Miralles, formerly of Racing among others, levelled from the penalty spot in the 54th minute.

Three minutes after the equaliser, half-time sub Roberto Cornejo, another Argentine playing for the Chileans, was sent off for fighting with Rodolfo Graieb, who also saw red for Lanús. Sebastián Penco hit the crossbar for Everton late on, but Lanús, who lead the league back at home, escaped Viña del Mar with just their second point of the group stage.
