Clausura ’09: Round 6 fixtures

The Primera A’s two sets of ‘Juniors’ clash in La Bombonera on Sunday evening; league leaders Lanús host Colón, who are only a point behind them but, thanks to the Promedio, have a relegation battle as well as a title tilt to motivate them at the moment. Vélez host River on Saturday. Any of those last four teams mentioned could end the weekend top of the table, as could Gimnasia La Plata, who are at home to Tigre, who can’t do. All this and much more, in another weekend of madness in Argentina…

All kick off times are local. Add two hours for Greenwich Mean Time, or three for the match in Jujuy, highlighted in orange, and the matches on Sunday (the clocks go back in Argentina on Saturday night).

I suppose Matt will feel a little bit more like I do. We’re doomed!

Independiente rolled over and died conceding 4 goals to a team that was yet to win a single game in this Clausura. This came just days after they thrashed Boca Juniors.

Now Arsenal started brightly but Central created two chances and scored two sensational goals (especially the second one with a bicycle kick after a horrible decision by Arsenal’s keeper). Caraglio is looking like the perfect combination of Batistuta, Van Basten, Papin, Gerd Muller, Ronaldo and Van Nistelrooy!

I don’t want to be suspicious here, but Arsenal’s manager -Daniel Garnero- was an iconic Independiente enganche in the 90s -Bochini’s successor-. I wouldn’t like to think Arsenal are taking it easy tonight knowing which team is fighting against the drop against Rosario Central, would I?

A horrible Friday already. I’m sure Gimnasia will win tomorrow now. And Racing’s stadium will be a cauldron for our guys. I also expect Racing to lose on Sunday.

    That’s how confident I am.

Oh…and Caruso’s latest comments after it was known that he ruled out the signing of Caranta: “It would have been a lack of respect for the goalkeepers we have”.

What about the lack of respect to the fans by fielding goalkeepers with no hands week after week?

    Oh dear….

  2. Matthew Gilbert says:

Yes, I read those comments by C-L in olé, unbelieveable. It is now 4-0 to Central. Everytime an Arsenal shot is spilled by Braun or rebounds in some other way, it is cleared… when Central get a rebound it finishes in the net :(
A terrible start to the weekend.

I am hoping that Tigre can do something. Sorry Gimnasia, it’s dog eat dog now…

As for Sunday, does Daylight Savings Time end in Argentina? In which case we have to add three hours in the UK? Up till 0030 to see Racing lose :(

Ah, it looks like the channel I’m watching has just been closed down as usual around this time on a Friday. For a change, it’s a relief. I’ve had enough. Time for bed.
    Vamos Racing!

  3. Seba says:

5-0 for Mostaza’s Central. I can’t remember when was the last time (if ever) one of Mostaza’s team scored 5 in a single match.

Re: Daylight Saving, you are correct. Midnight on Saturday, our clocks will go back one hour, which means we’ll be 3 hours behind the UK.

Then when you change it in two weeks, it’ll be 4, and some Premiership matches will start at 8:00 AM again… :(

  4. Thanks for the daylight savings attention-call, gents. I wasn’t aware it was this weekend in Argentina (I’m barely over my jetlag after returning home from Mexico yet). I’ve corrected the main story here so it’s accurate now.
