I thought Argentina did what they went to Montevideo to do. Play a boring, defensive minded game intent on a 0-0 draw. Ordinarily, with that in mind you would think there might have been some coordinated counter attacks. Close to none, and when they tried their efforts were not organized at all. Di Maria would blast down the pitch until he lost possession and Higuain and Messi spent most of the match wondering what was for dinner.

it was a boring game but i actually thought argentina did well. Heinze has become atrocious. All he does is foul and then throw himself on the ground anytime anyone is near him.

what a difference a couple of games and a WC qual. would make? I was just as skeptical but Diego’s tactical approach in the past 2 games was surprisingly good. He’s getting the hang of it and seems to be settling on a core of players.

Come on, game was awfull, more battle than anything else. Argentina played pretty well defensively, but that’s all. Id like to believe Maradona can do better, but it’s really hard. All he’s doing well is winning friendly games with completely different line-ups every time.

I am an atheist. I consider the concept of god a noxious thing. However, I do believe that if Maradona is involved, god is there too.
But for how long…
Maybe he should be in the stands next year in South Africa.

Sam, i’m really really happy that Argentina managed to make it. Don’t know what I would’ve done with myself if they werent in South Africa next year. Having said that, can we really celebrate this? Barely qualified, foundering, with no tactical concept and no defined squad, this team has no future at the World Cup. This win shouldn’t excuse Maradona, his record is still dismal and he needs to be replaced. Unfortunately, I just don’t see it happening now.
