Due to the AFA’s complete inability to comprehend that some of us are running blogs about their league in our spare time from a time zone three hours ahead and rather enjoyed having not much to do on a Monday evening, Monday afternoon and evening matches begin in earnest this week. Rodrigo Archubi, found guilty of doping a few weeks ago, begins his suspension and won’t play for River Plate (or indeed any other club) until the 10th of January 2010. The joint leaders have tricky assignments: Newell’s visit a resurgent Chacarita tonight, Banfield host champions Vélez on Saturday. San Lorenzo are at home to Independiente in Sunday’s clásico, and Sunday’s matches feature three teams fighting to avoid a relegation playoff spot – or worse – all against considerably more comfortably-off opponents.
All kick off times are local. Add three hours for Greenwich Mean Time. Please note that contrary to what I thought when I wrote up last weekend’s fixtures, Argentina does not move its clocks forward in 2009, neither this weekend nor any other.
