Haha… the exclamation mark is because he scored, David. I’ve got plenty of time for him as a player! I’d certainly much rather have him in the World Cup squad than Gago. I suspect Maradona thinks otherwise, though…

Couldn’t agree more about Banega ! And also a versatile player who can drop back and play a bit as a holding midfielder. Once with Boca I remember him playing fullback due to injuries and played well. Seems to me a much more valuable guy to have on the NT than the likes of Bolatti and even the warhorse Veron. Plus, he’s ex Boca so with Maradona you would think he would be a shoo-in. It would be just like Maradona to pick the wrong ex Boca’s and leave Banega off the squad.

Steve-does that asterisk stand for an “i” or an “a” ?:) A great talent is Di Maria and I hope he does begin to show some signs of emotional maturation. I’m not holding my breath though. When he is on he is beauty to behold.

Why the exclamation mark, Sam? Because he doesn’t score many, or because you don’t rate him?
He has been magnificent so far this season, and on this form should be a starter for the NT in South Africa.

I shall now put my feet up and smoke my pipe, happy in the knowledge that Saviola is back in the Argentines abroad section of HEGS! Not only that, but there’s room for a Di Maria and Aimar mention. Can’t stand Di Maria, an incredible talent but an utterly irritating tw*t.

Porto’s Argentines are having a torrid time however, Farias is now injured after being on the bench for the second season in successan, despite scoring almost every time he comes on. Players like Tomas Costa and Belluschi have been big flops, the latter’s days now look numbered with the arrival of the next big Portuguese thing, Ruben Micael.
