Banfield edge closer

Double goal scorer James Rodríguez (orange) battles for the ball

Banfield claimed a 2-2 draw in the Estadio Centenario on Wednesday night against Uruguay’s Nacional to edge ever so slightly closer to the Copa Libertadores knockout stages. With the halfway point in their group now reached they top the Group 6 table on 7 points, with Nacional on 5 and Ecuador’s Deportivo Cuenca on 3. The Mexicans of Monarcas Morelia have just one point. Not for the first time, Colombian James Rodríguez was the hero for El Taladro, scoring both his side’s goals before a late Nacional equaliser sent the sides in level at the break – the score remained 2-2 throughout the second half, and you can watch the goals right here.

Copa Libertadores 2010, Group 6: Nacional (URU) 2 – 2 Banfield

On Tuesday night, Estudiantes claimed a 0-0 draw away to Bolívar in Group 3, to remain in with a chance of qualification for the knockout stages.
