Boca vs. Cúcuta – latest

Boca’s Copa Libertadores semi-final second leg against Cúcuta of Colombia in La Bombonera has been delayed by 45 minutes due to thick fog and eventually kicked off at 8:10pm Argentine time (00:10 British Summer Time). After 20 minutes, the score’s 0-0 (3-1 to the visitors on aggregate). Check back / refresh this story for updates.

44 mins: GOLAZO DE BOCA – The start of the fight back? A minute and a half before half time, Juan Román Riquelme curls a gorgeous free kick into the top corner from just outside the area. 1-0 to Boca on the night; 3-2 to Cúcuta on aggregate. That fog really is very thick, but it’s definitely game on…

HALF TIME: An open first half in which both sides have hit the crossbar, but Boca have just shaded it and lead through that superb Riquelme strike a minute or so before the break. Cúcuta still have the overall lead, but can the xeneize make it to their fifth Libertadores final of the decade?

51 mins: After a frantic opening to the second half in which Boca forced goal-line blocks and a superb save from visiting ‘keeper Robinson Zapata, they had a goal disallowed for what looked – in really extremely thick fog (sorry to keep mentioning this but the cameras are struggling to pick out the 18 yard box) – like a very incorrect offside decision indeed. The tension mounts…

59th min: The match gets back underway again, following a 5-minute break whilst the officials looked like they might be about to call it off due to the fog. Immediately following the restart Boca win a free kick just outside the box…

60 mins: GOL DE BOCA! The free kick goes for a corner, and El Loco Martín Palermo almost suicidally heads it in at the far post. 2-0 to Boca on the night, 3-3 on aggregate and the hosts are ahead on away goals. Is this the end for Cúcuta’s dream?

64 mins: The officials are back on the pitch and more discussions are taking place as to whether the match should continue, as the fog just gets thicker.

65 mins: The answer is yes, apparently.

69 mins: BRILLIANT double save from Zapata, first from a Palacio overhead kick and then from Ledesma’s follow up. Cúcuta are under heavy pressure…

77 mins: Boca continue to exert the pressure but the fog is preventing it becoming too nice a game. It’s long-ball and scrappy, and Cúcuta’s counters are coming to nothing as passes fail to find their man and Boca win the ball back.

78 mins: Riquelme puts in Cardozo down the right channel, who whips in a dangerous cross to the far post which is cleared away.

82 mins: A Boca player is down in his own penalty box, having challenged for the ball, but exactly what happened isn’t clear from the pictures.

84 mins: Seemingly not very much, but he’s stretchered off and Cúcuta have a corner, which goes for a goal kick. Boca get it back up to the other end..

87 mins: ALMOST an unbelievable goal from Cúcuta! A counter-attack at lightning pace sees the ball pass through four players before being scuffed just wide from the edge of the box. It would have been a stunner but it’s getting very late for them to win it now…

89 mins: Pablo Ledesma cuts in from Boca’s right wing and get almost to the six-yard box before Zapata puts it out for a corner…

89 mins: GOL DE BOCA! The corner goes in and Sebastián Battaglia meets it with a diving header to steer it into the back corner of the net. 3-0 to Boca, 4-3 on aggregate and that, surely, means a Boca vs. Grêmio final.

90+3 mins: A long shot which bobbles and almost fools Boca ‘keeper Caranta, but it’s held and the ball goes back out to the halfway line. Due to all those stoppages earlier in the half, there are to be ten minutes of time added on.

90+6 mins: Cúcuta striker Lionard Pajoyraces through on goal. Mauricio Caranta races out of his goal, clatters him to the ground and somehow doesn’t get a penalty awarded against him.

90+9 1/2 mins: FULL TIME. Boca Juniors 3 – 0 Cúcuta (4-3 agg.). An amazing comeback in dreadful conditions, and it’s Boca vs. Grêmio in the final.
