There were an amazing twelve red cards and thirty-two goals this weekend, all of which made typing this entry an absolute pig of a job. Germán Denis grabbed two to take his tally for Independiente to thirteen in ten matches as his side beat Olimpo. Boca ballsed up at home against Gimnasia de Jujuy to concede the leadership to El Rojo. There was an extraordinary finish to the five goal thriller in San Juan and Argentinos took Newell’s to the cleaners despite having their goalie sent off, but it’s Tigre’s thrashing of River which will grab all the headlines. How much longer will Daniel Passarella last? José Mourinho’s looking for a challenge now, after all…

Independiente are the outright leaders now, with 22 points from ten games. Boca are on 20, whilst Argentinos, Tigre and Lanús complete the top five, all on 17.
