The Apache and the little bull

With the absence of Lio Messi and Gaby Milito from Barcelona’s lineup against Real Murcia, and Inter’s Serie A campaign not re-starting until tomorrow, it was left to England and France to provide the main stories for Argentina’s foreign legion on Saturday. Carlos Tevez carried on his stellar form for Manchester United, whilst Fernando Cavenaghi continues putting the bad old days behind him for Bordeaux…

United took a managerless and utterly pathetic Newcastle side to pieces in the second half at Old Trafford, and Carlitos scored two of his side’s six goals, as well as providing the assist for Cristiano Ronaldo’s second (United’s third). Tevez’s first sprung from a typically hilarious Newcastle defensive cock-up allowing Ryan Giggs to square the ball back to him for an easy tap-in, whilst his second, which finished the scoring at 6-0, may or may not have crossed the line fully but was at least deserved for his performance.

Fernando Cavenaghi, meanwhile, continues making waves in France and making up for all the time he wasted at Spartak Moscow. His double strike, playing alongside compatriot Alejandro Alonso, helped his side to a 4-1 victory over Auxerre and up to second place in Ligue Un, six points behind Lyons. Cavenaghi’s six feet tall, and has certainly re-found his River Plate form since joining Bordeaux. Should he get the chance for European competition with them next season, might the selección have a target man for consideration?
