Clausura ’08: Round 7 scores and scorers

Torneo Clausura 2008 logo

A late one this week, due to the Lanús vs. Newell’s match taking place on Monday evening. This round saw the ends of Juan Manuel Llop’s and Pedro Troglio’s managerial spells at their clubs, following Independiente’s loss to San Martín and Banfield’s to Central. River and Boca top the table for the moment, but a decision over the award of three points to Estudiantes after the calling-off of the final minutes of their match at Racing still has to be made (assuming they’re given the points, they’ll go top). The only definite for that so far, apparently, is that Racing won’t receive a points deduction.

Primera División A Torneo Clausura 2008, seventh round
Arsenal de Sarandí 0 – 1 San Lorenzo de Almagro (G. Bergessio 84)
Tigre (R. Martínez 39; M. Giménez 85) 2 – 0 Gimnasia y Esgrima de Jujuy (C. Ramacciotti (manager) OFF Half time; M. Miramontes OFF 57)
Rosario Central (E. Zelaya 56; J. L. Vizcarra 83) 2 – 1 Banfield (N. Pavlovich 32)
Argentinos Juniors (J. Mercier 11) 1 – 0 Olimpo de Bahía Blanca
Racing (C. Fileppi 41; M. Sánchez OFF 71; A. Bastía OFF 75; M. Moralez OFF 771 – 2 Estudiantes (D. Galván 58; L. Lázzaro 61)*
Vélez Sársfield (P. Lima OFF 81) 0 – 2 River Plate (A. Sánchez 9; R. F. García 11)
Boca Juniors (J. Dátolo 6; L. Gracián 38) 2 – 1 Colón de Santa Fé (C. González 90+3; G. Rivarola OFF 82)
San Martín de San Juan (M. Bravo 1; L. Tonelotto 36) 2 – 0 Independiente
Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata 0 – 0 Huracán (E. Domínguez OFF 40)
Lanús (R. Dovetta 53) 1 – 1 Newell’s Old Boys (I. Fideleff 24)

* Racing vs. Estudiantes was called off with 13 minutes to play after fans reacted to Maxi Moralez’s sending off and the disallowing of the goal he’d just scored, making the match unsafe to continue in the referee’s judgement. A decision has yet to be taken on whether the rest of the time will be played, or Estudiantes will simply be awarded the points, though it’s been confirmed that Racing are to have their stadium closed but won’t suffer a points deduction.
