With one match remaining of the Torneo Clausura 2008, two issues at least are cleared up: River Plate are champions thanks to two goals from Diego Buonanotte, and San Lorenzo are in the Copa Sudamericana courtesy of a Gonzalo Bergessio hat-trick. Racing’s defeat of Huracán means they won’t be going down automatically, and thanks to the same two results that gave River the title – their own win over Olimpo and Estudiantes’ draw with Colón – La Academia may yet save themselves from the relegation situation altogether when they take on Colón, currently above them by the slimmest of margins, in the final game in two weeks. Boca’s win on Sunday evening takes them above Estudiantes and into second. In Primera B Nacional, meanwhile, right back Cristián Vella’s 94th-minute equaliser for Ben Hur against Unión de Santa Fé means that Godoy Cruz de Mendoza are back in the Primera A next season. They play fellow promotees San Martín de Tucumán on Monday.
