Apertura ’08: Round 8 fixtures

Sunday is clásico day this weekend, with River hosting Racing in the country’s oldest derby before Gimnasia visit Estudiantes – as a genuine away team, for the first time in a few years – in the La Plata derby. Boca – who beat Newell’s 4-2 in the remaining match from round two on Thursday afternoon – are away to Godoy Cruz, leaders San Lorenzo host Arsenal and Tigre and San Martín are both in action on Friday evening. It was announced on Thursday, by the way, that Independiente’s Uruguayan defender Guillermo Rodríguez will be suspended for five matches for grabbing a linesman by the throat during the Boca vs. Independiente match a couple of weeks ago.

All kick off times are local. Add four hours for British Summer Time.

  1. Really enjoyed that Boca-Nuls match for the entertainment – and the result kept Nuls in reach.
Viatri was terrible until the last few minutes, when he and Gaitan virtually won the game on their own.

What exactly did Rafa Benitez see in Paletta? The guys giving out the work permits would laugh in his face if they watched some of Paletta’s recent performances.

  2. Viatri is like a clean up hitter on a very good baseball team who hits .230 but still gets some rbi’s. Gaitan is very impressive in my book. Paletta has looked a little ragged lately but I think he’s done well overall at Boca.
