Chile vs. Argentina – the possibilities

As ever, Coco Basile won’t be revealing his starting XI until very shortly before kick off in Santiago, but with Juan Román Riquelme having rejoined the Boca Juniors squad to prepare for Sunday’s superclásico following his suspension and with Carlos Tevez also ruled out, it’s thought after the team’s final training session at Ezeiza on Tuesday that he’ll move Lionel Messi into the enganche position to take on Marcelo Bielsa’s Chile.

The squad arrived in Santiago at around 8pm local time (7pm in Buenos Aires) on Tuesday, after spending the morning training at the AFA complex in south-western Gran Buenos Aires. What is already known (or at least reported as definite by the Argentine press) is that San Lorenzo’s Cristian Ledesma will start in midfield, and Diego Milito is looking likely to be spearheading the attack. Sergio Agüero, whose knock from the Uruguay game seems to have cleared, is also back in the reckoning.

Barring any last minute injuries, a likely starting XI could be…

J.P. Carrizo

J. Zanetti —- N. Burdisso —- M. Demichelis —- G. Heinze

C. Ledesma —- J. Mascherano —- E. Cambiasso

L. Messi

S. Agüero —- D. Milito

The match will kick off at 19:15 local time (20:15 in Argentina; 12:15am British Summer Time).
