Apertura ’08: Round 11 scores and scorers

The chasing pack all won and the leaders lost this weekend, so the title race is tightening up. At the bottom River struggled – and lost to another set piece goal – in Jujuy and Central lost in La Bombonera, whilst Banfield couldn’t follow up last week’s win over Racing with a result against Gimnasia La Plata. Combining with Racing’s win over San Lorenzo this means the business end of the Promedio is opening up. There was also, of course, a magnificent match at Lanús on Friday night. All the heroes are right here, and amazingly no villains this weekend; there wasn’t a single red card…

Primera División A Torneo Apertura 2008, eleventh round:
San Martín de Tucumán (D. Vega 26) 1 – 0 Arsenal Fútbol Club
Lanús (J. Sand 10, 65; C. Quintana 31; E. Salvio 55) 4 – 3 Godoy Cruz Antonio Tomba (L. Caruso 20; I. Borghello 69; M. Aguirre 77)
Vélez Sársfield 0 – 3 Colón de Santa Fe (R. Ramírez 20, 45+3; L. Acosta 90+1)
Newell’s Old Boys (C. Fabbiani 61) 1 – 1 Estudiantes de La Plata (L. Desábato 58)
Huracán 0 – 3 Tigre (M. Morel 12; M. Giménez 51; L. Altobelli 52)
Independiente (D. Montenegro 56) 1 – 1 Argentinos Juniors (A. Romero 90+2)
Boca Juniors (L. Viatri 7; O. Gaitán 87) 2 – 1 Rosario Central (E. Zelaya 58)
Racing Club (A. Lucero 1; M. Moralez 18) 2 – 1 San Lorenzo de Almagro (A. Torres 69)
Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata 0 – 0 Banfield
Gimnasia y Esgrima de Jujuy (H. Desvaux 57) 1 – 0 River Plate

As ever, check back on Monday night for the goals from the weekend.

  1. I watched the match between Racing and San Lorenzo quite closely… as I’m a Boca fan myself… I screamed for every goal… it was 4 at the end of the afternoon… and my wife asked me if Boca had scored 4 goals!!! jejeje… I had to explain that for THIS ONLY TIME I was suporting his father and brother’s team (Racing) but it was more of NOT supporting “Los Cuervos”

It was a very exciting weekend for “Torneo Apertura”!!!
