Borghi unveiled at Argentinos

Argentinos Juniors’ 3-2 loss away to Estudiantes on Saturday saw manager Claudio Vivas resign his charge, and there was no waiting around to see who would replace him – on Monday Claudio Borghi, former Argentinos playing favourite, was unveiled. Argentinos become Borghi’s second Argentine club as a manager after his spell last year with Independiente. He’ll be assisted by Norberto Batista, brother of national youth boss Sergio.

‘I’m not returning to Argentinos as a player but as a manager, but I’m sure the first week is going to be a very emotional one. I was with this club from the age of eleven until I turned twenty-one, I was formed here, they gave me food, they helped me grow as a player, I had good things and bad things happen to me,’ began Borghi, stopping mercifully short of openly breaking down in tears. Last in the table with just thirteen points, Argentinos will need him with a clear head as soon as possible.

Borghi was almost given the Argentinos job back in December, when Luis Segura opted for Vivas instead, but it’s second time lucky for the World Cup winner, who will be joined by team-mate Sergio Batista’s brother Norberto, known as ‘El Chino‘. Between them they’ll be trying to impose a vision of expansive, attractive football similar to that learned by Borghi in his days as a young player at La Paternal. Good luck…
