Ayala has an unhappy debut

Don't look at me, look at him!

Former selección captain Roberto Ayala returned to Argentine league action after a decade and a half in Europe on Sunday, making his debut for Racing with great things expected of him. Unfortunately, the same poor form and lack of pace that saw him fall down the pecking order to Real Zaragoza saw to his team’s chances in this match, as Arsenal eventually beat their hosts 4-2, with Franco Jara skinning Ayala for one of the goals. Elsewhere on Sunday Chacarita Juniors came from behind to shock champions Banfield 2-1, Estudiantes comfortably brushed San Lorenzo aside 2-0, and River Plate stuttered to a stultifying 0-0 draw at home to Rosario Central. You can see all the goals (and a couple of highlights of the goalless match) right here.

Chacarita Juniors 2 – 1 Banfield

Estudiantes de La Plata 2 – 0 San Lorenzo de Almagro

River Plate 0 – 0 Rosario Central

The third round of the Torneo Clausura will end on Monday night, with Atlético Tucumán hosting Huracán before Independiente’s visit to Godoy Cruz.

You can follow the Clausura and the Argentine sides in the 2010 Copa Libertadores via HEGS on Twitter (including updates during and between matches and similar stories that might not go up on the site until later). I’m slowly gaining followers, but if you’ve not signed up yet you can do so here.
