Torneo Clausura 2010: round 3 scores and scorers

Having stayed up too late tonight waiting to be able to type this post up, the four teams in action on Monday were most inconsiderate to England-based Argentine football bloggers by not bothering to score a single bloody one between them. Godoy Cruz join Vélez at the top of the infant Clausura table on seven points, largely thanks to Independiente hitting the woodwork twice in Mendoza. A little earlier, Atlético Tucumán and Huracán served up a match that was as dull as dishwater. And to think the round started so promisingly…

Primera División Torneo Clausura 2010, third round:
Lanús (M. Aguirre 9; S. Salcedo 12; L. Díaz 81) 3 – 6 Argentinos Juniors (R. Erramuspe OG 23; N. Pavlovich 43, 55; I. Sosa 63; N. Ortigoza 68; E. Hernández 79)
Newell’s Old Boys (J.M. Insaurralde 2; J. Achucarro 15; M. Fórmica 18; L. Bernardi 90+1; A. Alayes OFF 67) 4 – 2 Boca Juniors (M. Palermo 34; L. Viatri 86; G. Paletta OFF 90+3)
Vélez Sársfield (A. Ormeño OG 6; F. Tobio 24) 2 – 1 Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata (M. Pérez 39)
Tigre (N. Ayala 18, 62) 2 – 2 Colón (D. Ríos 3; C. Pellerano 48; J. Mosquera OFF 61)
Chacarita Juniors (L. López 49; F. Parra 55; F. Gamboa OFF 58) 2 – 1 Banfield (C. García 10)
Estudiantes de La Plata (M. Boselli 2; J.S. Verón 44) 2 – 0 San Lorenzo de Almagro (G. Aguirre OFF 72)
River Plate 0 – 0 Rosario Central
Racing Club (M. Cahais 9; G. Hauche 60) 2 – 4 Arsenal Fútbol Club (F. Jara 25; D. Galván 72; M. Obolo 85, 89)
Atlético Tucumán (S. Longo OFF 60) 0 – 0 Huracán
Godoy Cruz Antonio Tomba (C. Carranza OFF 74) 0 – 0 Independiente

No goals on Monday mean all the weekend’s strikes are already online in the previous two posts. The later than usual finish to the games means Argentines Abroad will be appearing on Wednesday this week.

You can follow the Clausura and the Argentine sides in the 2010 Copa Libertadores via HEGS on Twitter (including updates during and between matches and similar stories that might not go up on the site until later). I’m slowly gaining followers, but if you’ve not signed up yet you can do so here.

  1. small footnotes; independiente tried a 3-2-5 in the second half – Piatti, Gracián, Silvera, Gandín & Rodríguez – just like in the 50’s; Boca is up in arms about benching pato and ibarra for next match & the new libero brazilian Luiz Alberto had first practice today and choked after 20 minutes – he’s not ready yet (is this a sign of a no-confidence vote on Bonilla, a much younger central def) ;

    1. I’m all for benching Ibarra, but unless Ayala is better than Pato right now, keep Pato in there. Then, bid him a festive farewell in a few months. I don’t think Boca is so horrible that they ought to fold up this soon.

  2. Ah, thanks for that Mike about Garcia. Well, maybe it’s time to see what Garcia can offer. Both he and Ayala are awfully young, but Garcia always struck me as a little better put together for the job.
